This paintng of rainbow trout was a present to my mother-in-law. It is painted in acrylic on heavy weight watercolor paper and is a compilation painting, which means I had to do a lot of Internet image searches for pictures of rainbow trout. I created a mock-up (rough draft) in photoshop of what I wanted the final image to look like. When I was satisfied with the positioning of the fish and background element, then I started painting. I find this technique to work best for me as I like to work from photographs and need to have something to look at in order to remind me what I am doing. As this painting did not have have deadline on it, it took about five or six weeks to complete.

Framed Pet Portrait

This painting was professionally matted and framed at our local framer who I believe did a marvelous job matching the colors in the painting to the color of the matting and frame. I especially like how the antiqued gold frame picks up the autumn leaves in the foreground.
